Learn poker properly

A course in the parts that actually decide whether money comes in or goes out, in three levels. It is free, there is nothing to sign up for, and it assumes you know the rules and nothing else. Every idea is shown on the real table, with the real numbers beside it.

Level one

  2. Equity, and why you can play well and lose
  3. Position is worth money
  4. Which hands to play
  5. The two leaks that cost the most

Level three

Advanced

The maths that decides how much to bet, the parts of the game no amount of good play protects you from, and where every model on this site stops being true.

  1. Variance, and the bankroll it needs
  2. Rake, the leak nobody mentions
  3. Why a bet gets called, and how much to bet
  4. Playing the person, not the model
  5. Bluffing, and how often it has to work
  6. Choosing the game, not just the hand
  7. Tilt, and knowing when to stop

Then prove it. Six challenges, from a table of four beginners up to five experts. Each fixes the opponents and the number of hands, so the only thing that changes is how you play. See the challenges →

What each tool is for

The lessons explain the ideas. These put a number on them while you play.

Play a table deals you a real six handed game against opponents you choose, from the bottom ten per cent of players to the top tenth of a per cent. Every call and fold is priced against the correct one, and at the end you are told how you played rather than how you ran.

Drill the spots gives you the same decision over and over without the waiting, checked against standard charts and the real equity.

Analyse a position takes any two cards, any board and any number of opponents, and tells you where you stand and what a call is worth. Use it on the hand you were not sure about.

See the variance takes a win rate and shows the swings around it, including the chance of going broke and the bankroll that avoids it.
